Center Of You

Life is hectic, busy, and consumed with errands and to-do lists. We become so accustomed to doing what we feel we have to do and have little time to care for ourselves. Little time to focus on our purpose, our happiness, our center

I found this little diagram while skimming through good ole Pinterest and thought I would share:

We, as humans, feel the need to have purpose. Makes enough sense. Why are we here if not for a reason? That reason gives us something to strive for, gives us meaning. It’s who we are.

It’s our center. 

It is important to take care of your core self. Your inner spirit. Your soul. When your inner most needs, wants, desires, emotions are ignored, you suffer. We may go from feeling in-control to completely overwhelmed with life. Stress increases and our world feels like a pond full of scattered ducklings, barely treading water. 

We have to find a way to get back to our center. For some, it’s through meditation or prayer. For others it may be by making time to focus on what is important to themselves or doing something that makes them happy. Maybe reading a book, turning up the music, or getting some much-needed rest. 

If we take the time to find what it is that we truly love, what supplies our need, what would make the world a better place, what is it we are good at – that is when we find our center. 

“At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.” -Lao Tzu

Whenever I begin each yoga practice, I work on blocking out my surroundings. I focus on my breath. I relate my breath to my center physically, then spiritually, emotionally, mentally. What makes me, ME? 

If I can focus on my center. I can find my purpose, then I can focus on who I am and who I want to be. I can seek the things and people who help to create the best of my center self, and rid my self of what may inhibit it’s growth and flourishment. 

Breathe. Ground. Focus. Be Mindful. 

I am STRONG-WILLED. I am TALKATIVE. I am HELPFUL. I am LOVING. I am STUBBORN. I am full of WONDER. I am LOYAL. I am SENSITIVE. I am CREATIVE. I am SPIRITUAL. I am working on being UNDERSTANDING. I am INSECURE with a want for CONFIDENCE. I desire ADVENTURE. I am INSPIRED. 

 This is my center, what is yours?

  1. I like the idea of finding your center it sounds quite spiritual. Sometimes I do things like going for walks and try and zone out so I can feel less stressed about things like work and finances! x

  2. I have probably a symple way to find a center of me . I’m not so religious man but I found the way to do yoga by doing all my job done with sincerity . Doing what I suppose to do in this life with full responsibility and sincerity. I believe my job is my Yoga , my Karma Yoga .

    1. Yoga is a wonderful tool and lifestyle practice to find your center. I practice as well. I firmly believe that “religion” is not the single pathway to finding your purpose. Spirituality, maybe. After all, I feel as though we all have a spiritual side to us to some sense. Thank you for reading!

    1. Yoga is quite the challenge of mind, body, and spirit. It requires you to step out of your comfort zone in some ways – at least it did for me – and step into a different way of thinking. A way that is simplistic, yet complex. A way that allows you to step outside of yourself, yet find yourself. It really is a beautiful thing.

  3. I am so with you in feeling overwhelmed lately! The funny thing is, the more overwhelmed I get, the less I do my daily meditations when in reality, that is when I need to do them the most. Hopefully, things will settle down soon. I like your centre and think I need to remind myself of some of the things you mentioned sometimes too 🙂

    1. It’s crazy how that works out, right?! I do the same thing with my relaxation and other practices. I know I need to do them but neglect to, when that is when I need them the most.

  4. I find my center by sitting outside and coloring. I’ve tried things like yoga and focusing on senses but nothing really calms my mind like a coloring book.

    1. If using a coloring book is what allows you to relax and take time to refocus, by all means, do it! Everyone’s method is going to be different. I am glad you found one that works for you!

  5. I think the only reason we are ‘here’ is to experience the world around us. I don’t think we need to have a purpose or a reason to be. When people realise that then they can just start enjoying life for what it is, one great big mixed bag of experiences.

    1. That is an interesting take. I think that I believe a little of both. I believe that I have a purpose, a center, however I also believe that I am meant to enjoy the beauty around me. However, that may also lead me to think that it may be my purpose 😉. I really appreciate you sharing your POV. 👍🏻 It’s always great to hear other’s thoughts.

  6. I love that you wrote about this! I came across this post at a perfect time, since I am struggling with finding time for myself and things that I have to do. It is important to take care of yourself, “your soul” as you said. Often times you lose sight of who you are in the process of taking care of everything else. Thank you for sharing, definitely made me think about things 🙂

  7. I used to do yoga and I loved it! but then life got busy, I started university and I’ve been none stop busy since then! But this is a great post and has made me realise that I need to take more time for myself!

    1. I have been neglecting taking time for myself here lately as well. It can be hard when life gets so busy. I completely understand. This post helps me remember what is important for myself. Not only that, for those around me.
